Like many photographers, I don't spend near as much time as I should getting professional photos taken of my own family. Yes, I am able to get tons of daily snapshots of my little ones, but taking the time and effort to organize a real photo session just never seems to happen!! So, from here on out, I will make it a tradition to do a yearly family photo.
Because our little Sam was turning one, I also needed a really nice one year pic besides the Dr. Seuss cake smash photos we captured for his birthday party invites. So, what better time to start our family photo tradition than now??
One thing I love about the Seattle area is the year round greenery. Can't find fields like this in Southern California, that's for sure. {I know a lot of photographers are very secretive about their locations, but that's not me, so here ya go…} Ft. Steilacoom Park was a photographer's dream… a location I've been searching for years! Acres upon acres of tall grass, dirt pathways, flower fields, and even old abandoned barn buildings. This is a must to reshoot at. So happy I found it!!
There's one word that sums up our family session… exhausting!!!! My tripod and wireless remote is definitely a lifesaver in times like these, but not having a body behind the camera makes for lots of surprises when viewing what was captured. My older boys sure do love to force that smile of theirs. Something about mommy's camera makes them very nervous and they just can't look naturally happy. So, we sat there in front of the tripod while I shot off hundreds of pics. One has got to come out, right??
Taking everything into consideration, mommy got what she wanted and I promised not to torture them for another year. Ok, I lied… we'll have to have a mini shoot at Christmas time. Here is a preview of my family!!

Maple Valley Photographer | Seattle Photographer {Beck's 1 Year Cake Smash}
I have limited myself on house calls since moving up to the great northwest due to the unpredictability of natural lighting. However, driving from my home studio in Maple Valley once in awhile is a good change of scenery for me!! I have loved photographing baby Beck in the past 6 months and I cannot believe he is ONE already!!
Going with his farm themed birthday, we had fun setting up a little themed cake smash for his 1 year photos. It's always interesting to see how babies explore and take to a cake, seeing as most of them are tasting it for the first time. Beck wasn't much of a fan, but it sure did look good!!!

Maple Valley Newborn Photographer | Seattle Newborn Photographer {Baby Watson}
11 day old, Watson, and his cute little family came to my home studio in Maple Valley last week. Boy was he such a good little model for me… I don't think I heard a peep out of him throughout the entire session. Even when he was wide awake, he just let me do my thing and barely moved a muscle. He had an amazing big sister who was so well behaved and quite the character… we got some great personality shining through in her photos!! All in all, this was one of the quickest and smoothest newborn sessions to date… several poses in just 2 hours!! Enjoy…

Maple Valley Baby Photographer | Seattle Baby Photographer {Sam's ONE Year Cake Smash}
This past year has flown by and I cannot believe my youngest just turned ONE!! I have had such a blast photographing my little guy over the past 12 months, but I gotta take advantage of that while he's little because his big brothers get very annoyed with mommy and her camera now.
We are planning a big birthday celebration when we visit California in a couple weeks, and the theme for our Sam-I-Am is Dr. Seuss!! I designed his invitations with these cake smash photos and I just adore them! A client of mine introduced me to a new fun shoot… a cake smash AND splash!! So, we got out a bucket and bubbles and had lots of fun after he got all messy from all that smashing. Here are my favorites.
Happy Birthday, Sam!!!
